Profile Biography
Hi! My name is Roselin and I am a Cosmetic Chemist with great passion for mentoring!

I grew up in Puerto Rico where I had little exposure to STEM but I remember always loving science and math. In school my teachers told me that I should try to become a medical doctor. Being a chemist and/or getting an advanced degree in STEM was something I never heard. One problem – I DON’T LIKE BLOOD!!! I truly enjoyed chemistry, though, and decided to pursue a chemistry major in college with the hopes of becoming a dentist.

Once I worked on my first research experiments in sophomore year, I knew I’d found my real passion and immediately scratched off the idea of dentistry. Working in a lab and trying to find answers to fundamental questions is incredibly rewarding. Since that first day I have spent 14 years doing research in many different fields, from synthesis, formulation, instrumental analysis as well as in vivo and in vitro biological assays. My doctorate research was on the development of new biomaterials for drug delivery applications. My research allowed me to get peer-reviewed publications as well as patents for my inventions.

In graduate school I learned that I could merge my passion for science with my love for makeup and cosmetics. Today, I work as a Cosmetic Chemist formulating extreme wear makeup such as lipstick and foundation. If you’d asked me in under-grad or post-grad what I was going to do with my life, I wouldn’t have said, “I am going to work for L’Oreal”, but here I am, and I love it! My story shows that you don’t necessarily need to know what you want to be from the get go, you just have to be open to learn and take opportunities.
