Profile Biography
Hello! My name is Kate Heckaman. I am a firefighter/paramedic for the City of Saint Paul. I am excited to be apart of program that aims to inspire young girls to pursue careers in STEM. I have always been geared towards Math and Science since I was a young kid. My first career path was in the medical field of Occupational Therapy. I previously worked as an occupational therapist in Intensive rehab at United Hospital and in home care for Gentiva Health Services.

My career took a drastic change over 6 years ago when I began down the path to become a firefighter. It was one of the most difficult things that I have done but definitely the most rewarding. I was fortunate enough to be hired by St. Paul fire Department 5 years ago. While working for St Paul, I was able to go through the paramedic program at Inver Hills Community College and became a licensed paramedic less than a year ago.

Beside being busy at work, I have plenty that keeps me busy at home. I am married to a wonderful and supportive husband. We are blessed with 3 children. My oldest daughter is Hayley who is in 5th grade. We also have twin 7 year olds, Jacky and Tommy, that are in the 2nd grade. I keep plenty busy through the winter with coaching hockey and watching all 3 kids at the rink. When I'm not busy with kids and work, I try to stay active and healthy at the gym. I also enjoy social events with friends and family.
