Profile Biography 
After managing the Biocom Institute’s Educating and Developing Workers for the Green Economy (EDGE) program in 2011-2012, Karen rejoined BI in 2016. Her current role includes managing the Institute’s education programs, as well as the Education and Volunteer Committees. Karen is also working to place community Supply Chain Experience Scholarship Program graduates and high school seniors who have earned digital badges in internships at Biocom member companies.
Karen is a native San Diegan, who grew up in Pacific Beach and earned a B.A. in Communications from UCSD. Prior to joining Biocom Institute, Karen’s career included community outreach, HR management, and operations management roles in local non-profit organizations. She has a passion for employer outreach, and for connecting students to internships. In her spare time, Karen enjoys volunteering for Better Education for Women in Science & Engineering (BE WiSE), and volunteering for Expanding Your Horizons San Diego.
