Profile Biography
I am a commercial applications scientist working for a molecular diagnostics company in Tucson, Arizona. I graduated with my PhD in Plant Science with a minor in Molecular & Cellular Biology from the University of Arizona in August 2019, where I worked with Dr. Ravishankar Palanivelu and studied the evolution and function of mechanisms important for fertilization in a model organism for flowering plants called Arabidopsis thaliana. As a first generation Mexican-American and the first to become a scientist in my family, I have served as a role model and inspired many of my family members to follow their dreams of going to college. I am a member of SACNAS (Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science), a former recipient of the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, a former Ronald E. McNair Scholar, a former participant in the Western Alliance for the Expansion of Student Opportunities Program, and an alumni of the International Baccalaureate Program.
