Profile Biography
I grew up near the southern shore of Lake Michigan and spent much of my childhood exploring nearby nature. After completing my undergraduate degree in Biology, I served two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Bolivia. Later, I went on to complete my PhD in Entomology at the University of Minnesota. My research has ranged from evolutionary studies of aquatic insects to understanding how we can better help conserve pollinators. My work has taken me to many exotic locales, including the Amazon Basin, where I've discovered and described dozens of insect species new to science. I currently work for the National Park Service as a Research Coordinator for the Great Lakes Research and Education Center, based at Indiana Dunes National Park. I live on a small farm with my husband, 2 kids, 2 dogs, a cat, 2 lizards, 3 chickens, and an old goat.
