Profile Biography
Hi there, STEM chicks! My name is DaniRose Hill and I am a recent graduate of the University of California Santa Barbara. I received a bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies with a minor in Black Studies. During my college career, I focused on combating environmental injustice, or the disproportionate burden of negative environmental consequences as a result of climate change and toxic industries. I firmly believe that clean air, land, and water are a human right and I hope that my environmental research reflects that!
My senior thesis was a nine month project that researched the toxic onshore drilling industry in Santa Barbara. After months of studying the topic, my research partner and I created a 60 page zine to make the dense, scientific research more digestible (and fun to read!) for the average person. The zine is currently being printed in both Spanish and English and will be distributed across onshore drilling communities in southern and central California over the next few months. My hope is that this zine makes critical environmental information, directly affecting the health and safety of California inhabitants, more accessible.
Currently, I am an Americorps fellow at the League of Amazing Programmers, a non-profit that aims to make Java programming courses accessible to under-resourced students in San Diego. Additionally, it aims to bring more girls into the tech industry, where they are deeply underrepresented. I am currently taking Java classes alongside the students and look forward to incorporating coding into my research!
In my free time, I love to be outside and active. I am an avid surfer, backpacker, and traveler. However, when I'm really tired out and looking for some down time, my go-to is watching stand up comedy!
I promise I don't bite, so if you are a girl of STEM and looking for any kind of mentorship, connection, or even just a chat to understand what I do better, PLEASE feel free to contact me.
