Profile Biography
I grew up and went to high school in Houston, TX. Math and Science were always my best subjects in school, so I decided to study engineering in college. I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, with a bachelors in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1999. I worked as a co-op student during my Junior and Senior year at IBM research in Austin, and took a full-time position there after I graduated. There I wrote verification software to help debug the latest RISC processors under development at the time.

In 2000, I entered a graduate program at the MIT Media Lab. Got my masters in 2002, and PhD in 2006. I also met my husband at MIT and got married in 2004.

We moved to Atlanta in 2007, when I got a job as an assistant professor at Georgia Tech. Now I run a robotics lab, advise graduate students, and teach classes on Artificial Intelligence and Human-robot Interaction. I'm also a mom, with two babies, a son born in 2009 and daughter in 2011.
